Cyclone Fani Brushes by the Bangladesh Brethren
Praise the Lord and greetings from Bangladesh. We are praising God in our lives for His abundant love and mercy as we labour for and abide in Him. He is blessing the Bangladesh mission through GMFC and also working with the helpless, defenseless, and weak people. This is why we are grateful to our omnipotent God. We also thankful to all the brethren who are praying and supporting through GMFC for helpless and needy people, especially children, widows and God’s kingdom.
We are preaching the gospel and spreading His kingdom in the south-west part of Bangladesh. Here, most of the people are Hindus and Muslims. Bangladesh is a third world country and most of the people are living in villages. Many are farm labourers and depend on agriculture. God is leading us in speaking His Truth to the people in the most remote parts on the world. We are already spreading God’s Kingdom in Khulna and Satkhira districts (States). We have two mission fields there and a full-time pastor in each mission field as the Bible commands.
The people we serve are very poor and living under the poverty line. They work the very hard all day long to earn their bread. With their tiny income, they cannot properly provide for their family and are often sick. Their houses are small and broken made with bamboo, soil and tin. Their house structure and foundation are very weak, so, a
small storm is dangerous for this kind of houses.
We are really thankful to our Almighty God for being with us to help shepherd these precious souls. The Bible says in Psalms 94:14 “For the LORD will not reject his people; he will never forsake his inheritance; I will not forsake them.”
We were praying for the furious cyclone Fani that it would not harm or destroy any homes or people. It turned before it reached Bangladesh and attacked India. We were praying for our mission fields because if the cyclone attacks this part of Bangladesh with its destructive power, it will be a miserable loss. We spoke often with the brethren over the phone during the warning giving them the latest updates and telling them when to take cover. Our God is really alive and He has control over nature. The cyclone came in Bangladesh and it didn’t destroy too much.
We believe that God controlled the cyclone and protected them. It attacked in Satkhira and Khulna districts at midnight and at that point all electricity was out. The next day, Pastor Tapon went to those fields to visit and saw some houses are broken, crops were destroyed but no catastrophic damage. He saw many were crying because
they lost all their food, etc. Now, they are helpless, homeless, and
foodless. Proverbs 22:9 “He that hath a bountiful eye shall be blessed; for he giveth of his bread to the poor.”
We are praying for these destitute people. Raise your helping hand to them and you will be blessed. -Brother Hilton Biswas (Bangladesh Overseer)
